A GARDEN OF A THOUSAND WONDERS

The Brežice library staff agrees with the saying: Not in numbers but in unity that our great strength lies. Having been connected with
cultural and educational institutions, societies and publishers in the community and beyond, we educate, make people aware and extend
the horizons of our users. By organizing cultural events, we locally, regionally and nationally encourage active, creative and quality
spending of spare time.

The number of book and library educating sessions as well as their participants has been growing constantly. In addition to the activities of
reading literacy for children, youth and adults, we organize special celebrations either at the beginning of or end of reading programmes
or for various international and world days. Author presentations and interviews have become an established method of encouraging
reading culture.

With high school students we discuss topical daily issues. Lecturers of technical and popular topics cover different areas of life (education and
training, healthy food, gardening, ecology, art, history, psychology, interpersonal relations, etc.) sharing their knowledge and experience.

Our versatile offerings have been upgraded by educational courses, workshops and other meetings. We created samples of various
calligraphy alphabets. Non-native Slovenians learned to use Slovenian language. A handful of people were breaking ground in speaking
Esperanto, the others were having fun when shaping clay, baking bread, and making advent time wreaths and flower arrangements. Travel
lectures give us the insights in world treasures, while creators related to Brežice and its surroundings bring insights to local treasures. All
these activities are the rainbow bridge over our garden of a thousand wonders.

Under the supervision and within the Posavje Lifelong Learning Centre project as well as Simbioz@ e-pismena Slovenija (»Simbioz@
e-literacy of Slovenia«), the members and users of the Brežice library have entered the world of information literacy. Their knowledge was
being upgraded on the Migam z@ računalnikom (»In front of a Computer«) project. This project was included in Knjižnice povezujejo
– Vloga knjižnic na področju socialnega vključevanja campaign (»Public Libraries Supporting Social Inclusion«) which was funded by
the programme Public Libraries 2020 in partnership with the Slovenian Public Libraries association.

The members and users of the Brežice library services acquire crucial skills of information literacy by attending computer courses; the world
of paperless reading, e-books and COBISS/OPAC catalogue is discovered at Poveži, naloži, beri … e-knjige (»Connect, load, read …
e-books«) workshops.

The library offers free internet connection (also wi-fi) in e-library computers or in departments. We provide photocopying and digitization
of requested materials.
